Scared for What?
Just Jesus | Pastor Mike McClure, Jr.
Numbers 13:30-32
What do you see when you look in the mirror? The mirror of your mind-
Insecurity- how it distorts your vision, shrinks your identity, and causes you to forfeit opportunities you were graced for
You only feel overwhelmed when you are trying to make moves out of your own power. But when you flow in your grace….
What you believe about you, determines what you’ll do with what God gave you.
From the Text:
It’s a faith test in disguise. Caleb spoke from conviction, the others spoke from comparison. Caleb spoke from a promise, everyone else spoke from a problem.
Fear will always exaggerate the obstacle to make you forget the opportunity.
Fear takes something real and stretches it beyond reason until it looks impossible- not because it is, but because your faith lens has been fogged by fear fiction.
Fear doesn’t just lie- it magnifies.
Fear isn’t just a feeling - it’s a strategy.
Don’t let the size of the obstacle make you forget the weight of your calling.
Fear is not just an emotion- it’s a spiritual strategy used to paralyze your purpose, delay your destiny, and disconnect you from divine confidence.
Whose strategy is it? Fear is the strategy of the enemy-satan. If he can’t destroy you, he’ll distract you. If he can’t block you, he’ll blind you.
Who is the enemy?
“Father of lies”- John 8:44 ; The enemy’s native tongue is deception. He only know how to speak lies. He doesn’t just tell lies- he is the lie.
Revelations 12:10- “Accuser of the brothern”
Peters 5:8-“He’s like a roaring lion..”
The devil has no real power! He has permission and persuasion.
He uses fear to talk you out of what God already gave you.
Every time fear, doubt, and shame speak- they’re echoing the voice of the enemy.
Don’t let a liar shape your life.
When you know the difference in voice and character, you’ll know who’s speaking.
If it leads to freedom-it’s Jesus.
If it leads to fear, confusion, or condemnation.
The Son of God sets you free- the father of lies keeps you bound. Don’t let the enemy narrate what only God authored.
The enemy puts a ? where God has a period [.]- voice inflation
Why does the enemy use fear? Why does fear work as a strategy?
It questions God’s voice
You forget God’s track record
Fear elevates ‘what if’ over ‘what God said’
It causes you to crave safety over obedience
Insecurity before opportunity- puts focus on your flaws over God’s favor. Example- You’re presented an opportunity and the enemy whispers “you’re not ready.”
Overthinking after a word from God- Example-God gives you a business idea. The enemy-“What if it fails?” He uses fear of failure to make you stay in a false safety.
Comparison at the door of destiny- Example- You’re about to step into your calling, but you see other people doing it. The enemy whispers “you’ll never measure up.” He tries to intimidate you with other’s success, so that you won’t walk in your own assignment.
Delay in the name of discernment- Example- God says move, but fear says “pray more.” Makes you spiritualize your own hesitation. Fear masquerades as wisdom to keep you stuck in cycles of delay.
Fear is hell’s marketing department- it can’t change your future, so it tries to convince you to abandon it.
Faith is Heaven’s strategy- and it only works if you move when it doesn’t make sense.
In this season I have to be-
Consistent-waking up doing the same thing EVERYDAY!
Persistent- being consistent in the face of resistance; waking up doing the same thing everyday THRU DIFFICULTY.
Numbers 13:30-33:
You will never make good decisions with bad information.
Communication with the wrong information is contamination.
Giants = Obstacles
Giants represent resistance to your faith.
Giants aren’t sent to kill they’re sent to reveal.
Giants are the tool that God uses to separate the faithful from the fearful.
Vs.33-Fear makes you project
Insecurity becomes projection- “and we looked the same to them”
Fear distorts your identity- which means you have a defeated mentality
They didn’t lose the battle in Canaan- they lost the battle in their mind.
When you feel small, you start believing everybody sees you small.
Fear shrinks your self-perception
God said “it’s your’s”- therefore, whatever is there is now under me. The ability to accomplish what He called me to is in the calling itself.
That’s the danger of letting fear interpret your identity- it reduces what God enlarged.
The enemy attacks your identity to weaken your activity.
3 Things We Must Overcome-
Insecurity- Represents what they saw. Insecurity isn’t about what you see when you look out, it’s about what you see when you look in. It’s not a reflection of your surroundings- it’s a revelation of your self-perception. Insecurity is an internal misalignment that creates external hesitation.
Immaturity- Represents what they thought. Take your mind back! Spiritual maturity is the ability to trust that things are never too bad for God to do something good. We overcome immaturity when we learn to make good decisions even in bad situations.
Impulsiveness- Represents what they said. Impulsiveness is when you immediately react with your feelings and not your faith- it’s when we consistently rush into quick decisions over quality decisions.
